Sata
Leads Lusaka Poll
The
two leaders candidature (Hichilema and Mwanawasa) failed
to convince Munali, Lusaka Central and Kabwata constituencies
opinion poll respondents most of whom favoured the former
local government and housing, health and minister without
portfolio in the Fredrick Chiluba government.
The opinion poll came closely in the wake of the presidentail
nomination exercise that started last Friday and is expected
to end this week.
The Angel has in the past conducted opinion polls in Northern,
Central, Copperbelt, Southern and Lusaka Province. Lusaka
has had the largest share of opinion polls that started
early last year.
The United Party for National Development (UPND) only led
in Southern Province as Mwanawasa led in Central Province
and Northern Province where Sata only fail short of 3 percent
to equal the incumbent President's 48 percent votes in his
favour.
And the last time the polls were conducted in Lusaka, Sata's
popularity was staggering at 52 percent and has since increadsed
by four percent. President Mwanawasa has also improved by
a percentage from the previous 25 percent.
As a leadership digest, we feel duty bound to sample the
popularity of aspiring presidential and parliamentray candidates
whose results and process is captured live on video.
If
concerns of poeple living in high density areas were broadcast
on national television, this could evoke teary response
from presidential candidates. Unfortunately, the national
broadcaster is closed to such poeple more especially when
they pour out their hearts in bitterness. The views of these
poeple are all captured on video. Biter voice greeted the
opinion poll crew after conducting the secret ballot mock
election or opinion poll.
Micheal Chilufya Sata the 56 percent voters in his favour
in the three costituencies of Lusaka said this time around
they will not make a mistake. What they need according to
them is a pragmatic leader that can create employment opportunities
for all; improve on the ddeplorable health conditions obtaining
in the country besides making the agriculture sector viable.
They added that the agriculture sector was yet to tick because
at the present a poor marketing system has seen many farmers
gerring stuck with their produce of sell at give-away price
to unscrupulous businesspoeple. They also noted that the
high rate of unemployment is forcing many poeple to frequent
beer halls as early as 08:30 hours in the morning. They
emotionally charged that time has come for a leader who
is not only specialized in rhectoric but is action oriented.
A youth in Mtendere compound added that Zambia's weak laws
requirea strong leader with the capacity of making lawenforcement
agencies to do their work. Anoother respondent in Kabwata
added that the past two intellectual presidents failed Zambians
and that he wanted to give chance to Sata who values hard
work.
Most respondents in favour of the PF leader said the opposition
leader would make poeple to work extra hard in their specialized
fields of the economy saying that other leaders have failed
to turn around Zambia's abundant resources. To them, Sata
is a dynamic leader who is result-oriented. Otherwise, Sata's
contribution to national development during the second and
third republics was hailed as a demonstartion of excellence
leadership.
